Country number ten! We hit our final country after taking the ferry today from Dunkirk to Dover.
What a contrast to yesterday – we had a great day! We had booked the 10am ferry expecting to have gone farther yesterday. The ticket allows for getting one ferry departure later (12pm), or otherwise having to buy a new ticket. We awoke at 6:30am and departed while it was still dark, at 7:15am. We had 50km to go, with check-in closing at 11:15.
So we sped off, racing against the clock, stopping at our final European bakery for some pastries and bread. It drizzled sporadically for the final half hour, but we made it with loads of time to spare.
The ferry was comically empty. There were maybe ten cars total along with a number of lorries. Once aboard we went to sit at the cafe, the area with the nicest views. Viki learned that we could get a free meal and so we each got a big portion of fish and chips.
The crossing was smooth and we arrived two hours later to sunny skies in Dover. We will now have to quarantine until our flight back to Canada.
