Phew – it didn’t rain on us last night (we were avoiding the “no camping” restriction by just sleeping in the open). Viki asserted that if we didn’t have a tent up, we clearly weren’t camping, we were just homeless.

Then, reminiscent of our Norway trip, we had a panic, realizing that the ferry left only once an hour, so we raced the 15km to catch the 9am ferry to the other side of the lake. It was then a slow slog of a morning, both of us tired from Gotthard Pass, as we cycled around the lake.

It was a pretty ride this morning, as we passed through the outskirts of Lucerne and then Lucerne itself. Since yesterday, we had been dreaming about milk. We thought about how it would taste with our muesli. But we’re in Switzerland, where everything is very expensive. Fortunately the gods delivered and we were able to get a liter for 1.25 CHF, which managed to fit within our budget. We had an extravagant morning indeed – real milk in our coffee and then a bowl of cereal with milk.

At 70km, Viki’s friend Tori came to ride with us, driving over from Zurich. It was a great boost to the end of the day, having another human being to ride with. Tori rode with us to Aarau, where she re-joined with her car and we parted ways. Viki and I then carried on a final few kilometers to find a beautiful secluded camp spot by a river.
