Day 7 – In the Provence of Provence

This morning we again woke up at 7am, had fully packed by 8am, then went a short ways to find a picnic table for breakfast. Viki had a bit of a tantrum again (becoming a theme through the day), but by 9am we were on our merry way.

Today our morning coffee+pastry wasn’t until 40km (around 11am), so we had a cheeky croissant in a little village that we passed earlier.

The morning was cool, but the temperature gradually rose to a scorching 31C again. We passed apple orchards, lavender fields, and, of course, many more vineyards.

Lunch was at kilometer 70 in a beautiful big town aptly named “Apt”. It had narrow streets lined with restaurants. We stopped at the supermarket for our standard cheese and tomato baguette.

We continued slowly on in the afternoon, where we passed into “haute” or “high” Province. The route did get more hilly as the afternoon went on, but still nothing like what we’ll have to contend with in Switzerland.

  1. Glad you sent me the link to your blog. We cycled in Provence on our last trip but then headed south towards Spain. In 1990 we did go through Switzerland over several passes coming into France at Chamonix. Can’t wait to see how your trip evolves!!
I have added our blog. Check out 2014 entries. That was our last trip😞
