We awoke after a somewhat restless night, with Viki in a grump. She’d had it with the trip, cycling in general, and asked to have me replaced. I declined, so we continued on with our chores and struck camp.
It was 15km to Montpellier, along nice cycle paths most of the way. Montpellier was bigger than we were expecting, with a beautiful Arc du Triumph along with architecturally nice town center. Coffee was as we were leaving, with Viki proclaiming that she would go no further until she rested her weary back.
Leaving Montpellier, we headed for Nimes. We took a combination of dedicated paved bike paths along with being on smaller country roads. We passed through multiple villages that were really cute, with small roads, nice architecture, and pretty churches.
We didn’t have lunch until 70km (around 3pm), where we upgraded from our basic baguette to a “cereal” bread (EUR 1 vs EUR 0.30), had “Tomme de Montagne” cheese along with tomatoes and the rest of our Chausee aux Moines and Compte. It was delicious. I also got a 1.50 EUR bottle of sparkling wine.
A final 30km brought us to our destination for the day of Beaucaire. We found a nice spot to camp, right on the banks of the Rhône River and were pleased to have a wash. The weather was HOT today, going up to 31C by 3pm. The heat will most likely continue for the rest of our time in France, until we reach the mountains of Switzerland.

I love you guys. Hang in there Vicki and listen to your body. Don’t let Andrew rush you around. You only get one back!
Love your stories 🙂
